The Q Texas BBQ Smokehouse at Houston’s IAH airport is a testament to the ingenuity and skill DCL brings to every project. When the client realized that the real copper originally imagined for this project was not a practical option, DCL developed a custom metallic finish to match the copper color the designer preferred. Fabricated in aluminum and custom finished, the solution saved time, cost, maintenance as well as minimized the weight of the structure. The complex still-shaped structure provided some interesting engineering and fabrication challenges. The venue, situated in the middle of the terminal, comprises a double BBQ smoker cooking area on one end, a long bar and several banquets in the middle and a communal dining area nestled under an array of faux copper tubing and open mesh ceiling structure. The venue’s main smoke room can be seen behind large oversized glass walls, supplied and installed by DCL.
